After a long cycle of meetings and inspections The Golden Aurora and Arvaseri Y'bron, the Governor of Elend Colony, signed a contract for exclusivity of distribution of K'sa to the hotel within the Y'toub system.
Bottled K'sa as it is being sold in the Golden Aurora.
The only luxury export of Elend Colony, K'sa is derived from the indigenous Didiji, an otherwise unremarkable fruit that is not found anywhere else. The long process from harvesting to bottling lasts for years, but produces a dark, inky liquid, akin to a fine brandy, tasting of vanilla and cinnamon with a strong cherry finish. Perfect as a pre-prandial drink, an after-dinner cordial, or a fine sipping liquor for any occasion, K'sa is fast gaining notoriety among the gourmets, the galaxy's elite, and all who are inclined toward the finer things.
Lord Govenor Arvaseri Y'bron in conversation with a member of our staff.
We got the chance to interview the lord governor of Elend.
Q: Elend is not really known for luxury products. What lead to the invention of K’sa?
A: A very happy series of accidents, actually. Elend is not a very hospitable planet. The first year, survival was certainly not certain, or even expected. As desperate situations often do, this served to embolden the people. People experiment with what is at hand, to have some sort of control of their lives. One colonist had been a distiller on Corellia, in the brandy industry there. She started sampling various fruits and grains that grew on Elend, at least the few that weren’t toxic. That first batch was rough, but it gave us an idea of how wonderful it could be, so the colonist began refining the process. It took a few years to arrive at what we know and love as K’sa, and it improves every year, now.
Q: What convinced you to pick the Golden Aurora as sole partner in the Y’toub system? We heard that you also spoke with other enterprises.
A: I am an Imperial, at least in name. I also believe that if the Empire and Republic were friendlier, life for all would be better. Most of the strife between the two seems rather contrived to me. [He laughs] That attitude was part of what earned me the stewardship of Elend Colony, it’s not that popular on Drommond Kaas.
I was impressed by the Golden Aurora from the first time I visited. Non-partisan, and with a superlative staff, serving some of the finest meals and libations I’ve had, I was ready to speak to the owners. Then something interesting happened. During an Imperial Ball, with Sith and Imperial military officers wall-to-wall, a lone Jedi wandered in. I don’t know if the act was deliberate, or if he simply didn’t know that the place was closed to Republic citizens for the evening, but he stood, instantly surrounded by hostiles. And no violence occurred. After some blustering and chest-puffing, the Jedi left, and the Imperials resumed the party. It was a sign to me of a noble thing, of peace between us. That decided me, then and there.
Besides, from a business standpoint, marketing to both Empire and Republic is the smart move, eh?
Q: Some of our guests were really interested in the source of K’sa. Are the possibilities to visit the Colony?
A: Oh, most assuredly! Elend Colony is, even aside from K’sa, a place that should be visited. We have several festivals and celebrations during the course of the year, where we especially invite travellers to take part. When no festival is happening, the Colony is still most eager to be a destination to remember. We practice something called Tave Dalis, which means “The Sharing”. We share openly and freely, and seek to make the most jaded hedonist sated and happy. We do not encourage children to visit, but there are staff for the Creche that can keep them entertained and occupied while the adults do more adult things.
We have a Harvest Festival coming shortly, to celebrate the Didiji harvest, with native food, dancing, entertainments, and, of course, plenty of K’sa. I invite your viewers to come and see Elend for themselves. If the trip isn’t possible, the next best thing is to enjoy a fine meal at the Golden Aurora, served with K’sa.
